Design Team: Kim Gaughan Week 4 Term 5

Ombre Love

We love anything ombre! From hair highlights to home decor! That's why we are loving today's project by Kim Gaughan. She created some adorable wall art that will sure be a favorite past the Valentine's season!

See her tutorial below:

I really wanted to try my hand at an ombre-ish canvas for Valentine's Day. So when we were challenged to create a home decor item, I thought this would be a great project to make.
It's a simple piece of art that would look great on any wall or mantle and while mine says 'Love', this can easily be customized to your own liking. Instead of going with a red and white color scheme for Valentine's Day I decided to go pink! and white.

Supplies:
-eCraft
-eBosser
-Regency Embossing Folder by Craftwell
-SCAL3 and Impact Font
-white cardstock
-adhesive
-12x16 Canvas
-Acrylic Paint - White and Red; Paintbrush
I started this project by painting a stripe of white paint onto the top of the canvas. Then I added a little bit of red paint into the white paint, mixed it until it was a soft pink and then painted another stripe onto the canvas below the white stripe (overlapping the layers a little). I then just kept adding more red into the white paint, mixing it, and painting stripes until the entire canvas was covered. (I used red paint instead of pink because that was what I had on hand, so I had to make the pink colors I wanted myself.) Using my eCraft, I cut out the word 'Love' in white cardstock so it was 10 inches wide. I used SCAL3 and the font Impact.

I embossed the letters with the Regency Embossing Folder. Instead of placing the letters into the folder vertically, I placed them inside it horizontally so the embossed lines were going the same way as my stripes were.

Next I glued the letters onto the canvas. And that's it! Hopefully, you can see the embossing in the above picture! A simple and easy decoration for Valentine's Day. I wanted the background to be a little more flowy so I didn't tape off sections to make them straight. But if you like more of a straight line, feel free to use masking tape and tape off sections to paint.
Have a great Wednesday!

Thank you Kim!
