Mixed Media Journal by Karen Jiles

Hi there,

It’s Karen, sharing this Mixed Media Journal created with the “Honeycomb” Embossing Folder, Honeycomb Project Die, Cut N Boss machine and the Snap machine. I really enjoyed creating this journal. It has loads of visual and physical texture created with the Honeycomb embossing folder and project die. I used a sanding bar to expose the embossed impressions of the honeycomb pattern in the folder and the honeycomb project die was perfect to create a stencil with. Supplies:

Cut N Boss by Craftwell

Craftwell Embossing Folder and Die Cuts: Honeycomb

Snap Machine by Craftwell

Mini Blank Notebook/Journal

Gray Whitecore Cardstock

Watercolor paper

Corrugated Board

Sanding Bar

Gesso

Stamp

Black Ink

Glimmer Mists

Dyed Ribbon

Cropadile

Eyelet

Trimmer

Paintbrush

Step 1: Place full sheet of cardstock into the “Honeycomb” embossing folder. Close the folder and insert into the Cut N Boss machine by Craftwell.

Step 2: Remove the embossed cardstock from the Cut N Boss and the embossing folder and trim it down to the size of journal.

Step 3: Adhere cardstock to blank journal and sand the embossed cardstock with sanding bar to expose the whitecore-creating a distressed effect. Set journal aside.

Step 4: Run Honeycomb die through the Snap machine with watercolor paper.

Step 5: Release the watercolor paper honeycomb die cut from the die.

Step 6: Place the honeycomb die cut on a layering piece of watercolor paper and spray mists onto the die cut paper transferring the honeycomb pattern to the watercolor paper. Let dry.

Step 7: Using black ink, stamp image onto inked patterned watercolor paper.

Step 8: Using Cropadile, punch holes in stamped watercolor paper. Adhere gessoed corrugated board and eyelet.

Step 9: Adhere stamped watercolor paper and corrugated board layer to the front of the distressed journal cover. Add dyed ribbon to the eyelet and stamped watercolor paper.

Step 10: Apply gesso to edges of ribbon. Tap gesso over journal with a paintbrush. Continue embellishing as desired.

Embossed Mixed Media Bookmarks

Hello there, friends! Linsey here today sharing my latest Craftwell project--some handmade bookmarks that are super simple and fun to create! These bookmarks are great for book, journal and planner lovers alike! They take very little time to make and are beginner level, which makes them a great craft project for kids too! Take a look....

I used my trusty SNAP Machine along with Teresa Collins 2 pack A6 Embossing Folders, Beautiful Words and Stars and Twill Herringbone to emboss plain white cardstock. Next, I put down a layer of clear gesso on each bookmark and let dry completely. Finally, the fun part....coloring them up! I tried something a bit different and used some Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Gelatos to add color to each bookmark. There are lots of other color mediums you can choose to use--try inks, sprays, paints--your imagination is the limit!

I like how they all turned out totally different and unique to one another! The embossed texture adds the perfect amount of interest without a lot of bulk. A bulky bookmark is no Bueno! ;)

You can finish with painting a layer of Mod Podge or other protective sealant over the colored bookmarks to ensure no color smearing and a longer life span. These bookmarks add a pop of color and an element of fun to your daily life. I sure hope you've been inspired to create something pretty today!
