Design Team Favorite: New Year's Eve Wreath

Design Team Favorite:

Guest Designer: Tessa Buys

Gold, and elegance is what describes today's home decor project! See how you can create a golden and embossed wreath for your upcoming New Year's Eve party!

I love wreaths. I love to welcome guests to my home with something pretty and handmade on my front door. When I received the Teresa Collins Woodgrain Cottage embossing folder, I knew instantly that I wanted to make a woodland inspired wreath:

I started with plain white cardstock, which I embossed using the folder and the Cut'n'Boss machine. Working with this machine has been a dream! I love that I don't need to crank the materials through, and the result is always perfect.

Next, I cut about 75 leaves from the embossed sheets of cardstock. I cut each one in the same basic shape, but I love how the leaves vary because of the placement of the embossing and the natural variation of something cut by hand. I used metallic gold spray paint to add gold to the bottom portion of each leaf. I love how the paint emphasizes the embossing.

I used a wire wreath form as my base, the same kind you would use for a mesh ribbon wreath. Because the wreath form is higher in the center, I thought it would give my paper wreath some nice dimension. You could always use a simple cardboard circle, but your wreath would be more flat. I added a gold ribbon hanger and then used hot glue to begin adding the leaves. Working in groups of three, I glued the inside leaf, then the outside leaf, and then the center leaf. I repeated that process until the entire wreath form was covered.

The wreath complements my gold holiday decor, but I think it will be a pretty addition to other seasonal decor, too. The woodgrain is timeless and gold is so trendy, it's not just for holidays!

Thank you to Craftwell for the opportunity to work with your beautiful products! I see many more woodgrain-inspired projects in my future.
