Design Team: Caroline Duncan Week 5 Term 6

Birthday Tag

May is here, and with a new month, comes a new sponsor! This month we are being sponsored by the wonderful Crafter's Companion!  See what Caroline created today!

Hi Everybody!  I want to thank Crafter’s Companion for sponsoring our Craftwell Design Team this month and for providing awesome products for us to play with!  You will love everything you see on the blog this month!  My first project is an over-sized birthday tag that I’ve made for an upcoming birthday for my brother-in-law.  The deep emboss the eBosser does is outstanding and inking the raised area with a brayer is so easy and clean.  You don’t get any smudges in the recessed areas because the raised areas are so high.

Instructions:
  • Prepare your large #10 sized tag background using Dylusions Inks or inks of your choice.  Mine was a “mop-up” tag that I blotted up some Dylusions inks from my craft mat.  It had some of the tag showing through giving it a nice mottled effect.  Once your tag is completely dry, machine emboss it with the Crafter’s Companion Chevron folder.  I do all my embossing in my eBosser and it makes the most wonderful deep emboss, even on heavy manila card stock.  Just fantastic!
  • The #10 tag is longer than the folder, so just turn your tag around and line up the chevrons and emboss the rest.  Lay your tag flat and brayer on black ink to make the chevron embossing really pop.  I used Archival Jet Black because at the point I was making the tag, I didn’t know if I was finished spraying inks and wanted something that would not react with the water based sprays.  But I really liked the outcome as it was after brayering the ink on.  Sometimes less is more!
  • Stamp the image using Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto Neenah Natural (cream) card stock and color with Copics.  Hand cut the image out and layer on top of a couple vintage playing cards.  Stamp the sentiment oval on manila card stock and sponge on Distress Inks.  Secure to the top of the tag with some Crinkle Ribbon which has been stained with matching Distress Stains.  Add some white doodling to the oval sentiment tag.
Thank you Caroline!
