Technique: Realistic Paper Butterfly
When it comes to creating projects for home decor or for a party celebration, you need to know how to create simple, yet tasteful accents. But where do we start? That's why today, our in-house design team wanted to break down one of our favorites!
Create a realistic looking butterfly to accent any Spring DIY decor!
With only 4 steps you can take a simple butterfly die cut, into a gorgeous piece of art-- -No art degree required!
So, lets get started!
Step 1:
Use your die cut machine to cut out a butterfly and airbrush in any color you'd like! We used the Teresa Collins Cut 'n' Boss & her butterfly die from the Lifestyle collection. To airbrush, we used the eBrush with Spectrum Noir "sea foam" marker in B T5.
Step 2:
Use an accent color, and airbrush the edges of the butterfly! We used the Spectrum Noir BT7, for contrast.
Step 3:
Using the fine tip of your contrast marker, free hand draw "branches" to create the butterflies wings. This step can seem intimidating, but start with simple long lines, and create branches out of those!
Step 4:
Once your butterfly is all dry (with the eBrush, it takes seconds!) Use a curling tool to curl the edges of your butterfly. And that's it! you are now ready to plate this butterfly on any wreath, centerpiece, or any other project you have lined up!
Easy, huh?!
Big thanks to our in house designer Judith Kim for photos and tutorial, and Spectrum Noir for providing the pens!
What will you create?
