Design Team: Debi Tullier Week 8 Cycle 8

Fun with Cheery Lynn Dies

Part 2

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Today, we have a Debi's project reveal, and it's perfect to set the table! See her project below!

This is the second part of my project. As you can see I am getting closer to my finished handmade Christmas gift project. The finished items are “Steampunk” styled cloth napkins and cool clear and metal napkin rings.
I am excited as I hope that non-sewers can  use the options I have provide  to make the finished napkin.

Well you can see by the photo that this is a recycling project and I will also share that it is a fabric project too! I am making another of those cool Steampunk items for my crazy relative. I decided to make my gift a super neat kind to the environment recycled project. Last week I shared how I used  a two-liter soda bottle to make my special rings. This week I will share my fabric making recipe!

So here is the supply list:
2 yards of a cotton material for napkins
Napkins are traditionally in sizes 12, 14 or 16  Just add 1/2 to the fabric on each side for the hem for the non sewers.
(Non-sewers) four 1/2 inch pieces of Heat n Bond for the hem
For Sewers a sewing machine for sewing the border to your napkin.
Iron
I used a homemade Gelatin Plate which is really fun. I got a recipe from youtube. I used 7 packages of Knox unflavored gelatin, 1 1/2 cups of Glycerin, and 1 1/2 cups of boiling water. It doesn’t need to be refrigerated and seems to last and work great.
Acrylic paints, I also used a textile medium to make the paint stable.
A embossing folder with gears for the “steampunk” look
A brayer to apply the paint to my embossing folder
Craftwell  eBosser
Sandwich:
A, C, D
for letterpressing my embossing folder on my fabric
Thread for sewers
Scissors, Ruler, notions

I am going to post photos in order to show you my project and how it progressed.

This is a 12 x 12 napkin with 1/2 inch added to all four sides for the hem. I marked off 2 inches for the design.

I used a sponge brush to add the black accent mark around the napkin. this is the on for non sewers.

Ready to move the embossing folder for my next space.

After Letterpressing and using Gelatin Plate to apply background paint and pattern.

Ironed on the Heat’N”Bond and ready to turn the “hem” and iron for permanent bond.

Edges turned and pressed. Ready to go!

I am very pleased with the Non-Sewer’s version. It is pretty and has a handmade feel. I really am having a blast with this one.
Now for the sewing version very easy cut fabric to 12 x 12 and added border 2 1/4 of the fabric I made.

I am so happy with the outcome. After stitching the borders I then just turned and sewed the edges and voile it is finished. I love this and see how I can make other variations of them as well. I love my Napkin Rings and my Napkins. I just hope that they will be loved by their gift recipient.

Sewing the edge!
